Acupuncture for Women’s Wellbeing at Every Stage of Life
At Carter Chiropractic and Dubbo Acupuncture, Dr Julie Constantine (Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture) understands that women’s health is rarely just about one symptom. With more than 21 years of experience in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, she has supported women through many different stages of life, including fertility, pregnancy, hormonal health, menopause, stress, anxiety and chronic pain.
And while every journey is different, many women share a similar feeling when they first walk through the door: they are ready to start prioritising their own wellbeing again.
For some women, the acupuncture journey begins with fertility support.
Trying to conceive can bring emotional ups and downs that are difficult to explain to others. Appointments, waiting periods, hormonal changes and uncertainty can feel overwhelming at times. Dr Julie has particular experience supporting women through both natural and assisted fertility journeys, creating space for care that feels calm and personalised to each patient.
Dr Julie also provides fertility support for both men and women, considering a range of factors that may influence reproductive health and overall wellbeing throughout the fertility journey.
For others, it may be pregnancy.
Pregnancy can be exciting, but it can also bring change, uncertainty and moments of exhaustion. As the body changes, many women seek gentle support to help them feel more comfortable, balanced and supported throughout different stages of pregnancy. Some women also explore acupuncture during the final weeks of pregnancy as part of their preparation for birth and natural labour support.
Dr Julie also supports children and teenagers.
Growing up can bring significant physical, emotional and hormonal changes, and many families are looking for gentle, holistic support during these years. From hormonal skin changes and school stress to difficulty sleeping and feeling overwhelmed, every teenager’s experience is different and care is personalised.
Then there are women navigating menopause and hormonal changes.
For many women, this stage of life can feel unfamiliar. Sleep may change. Stress levels may feel higher. Energy, mood and confidence can shift in ways that are difficult to describe. Some women simply want support while adjusting to these changes and finding a renewed sense of balance
Dr Julie understands that menopause can affect many areas of a woman’s life, often in ways that are difficult to put into words. Her holistic approach focuses on supporting overall wellbeing while helping women feel heard, cared for and more connected to themselves during this stage of life.
Many women also seek acupuncture when stress, anxiety and poor sleep begin affecting everyday life.
Some lie awake at 2 am unable to switch off, carrying tension in their shoulders, jaw and nervous system while continuing to care for work, family and everyone around them. Others simply miss the feeling of waking up rested, calm and energised for the day ahead.
In today’s busy world, many people are simply looking for a moment to pause, slow down and reconnect with themselves. The quiet treatment room, the opportunity to slow down, and the sense of being cared for can all become part of the experience.
Dr Julie also works with women experiencing chronic pain, muscle tension and ongoing discomfort.
Whether it is recurring headaches, neck and shoulder tension, lower back discomfort or general fatigue, many women are looking for ways to support their body naturally while continuing to enjoy everyday life.
Her approach is grounded in holistic care. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, she takes time to understand the bigger picture, including lifestyle, stress, health history, emotional wellbeing and the ways different parts of health may be connected.
She also completed a three-month medical internship at Zhejiang Medical Hospital in Hangzhou, China, where she studied and worked alongside experienced Chinese medicine doctors and professors within a hospital setting. During this time, she gained valuable hands-on experience across a wide range of departments, including herbal medicine, rehabilitation, pain management, gynaecology and dermatology.
Originally from Dubbo, Dr Julie brings both clinical experience and genuine compassion to her care. She is a nationally registered acupuncturist with AHPRA and a member of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association.
Most importantly, Dr Julie believes women deserve to feel supported through every stage of life, whether they are trying to conceive, preparing for motherhood, navigating menopause, or simply wanting to feel more like themselves again.
